Soul Land Anime Review

The captivating Chinese manhua/novel of the same name served as the inspiration for this Soul Land animated rendition, also known as Douluo Dalu. Although I haven’t read the full book, it is clear that there are certain differences between the animation and the manhua, such as missing details, changed story points, and modernized character designs.

Young Tang Sect adherents commit their lives to mastering the techniques of the story’s protagonist. Even after learning forbidden secrets, he still decides to live in repentance. His memories are preserved in a new realm as he embarks on a new journey after the end.

This adventure novel reveals a plot that is much more complex than it seems at first look while concentrating on the people around him and him. The animation differs from the manhua in several ways, including how it reveals future events or reworks the plot. These alterations may have been influenced by the original book. I may not have read the full book, but I believe I noticed significant alterations to the plot’s main parts.

In terms of the animation itself, although I am not a huge fan of 3D animation in anime, Soul Land’s compelling story convinced me to make an exception. Overall, I would call it a decently quality 3D animation. Its influence diminished as I became accustomed to its distinctive style, even though I do not love 3D animation.While the character designs didn’t completely correspond to the manhua’s traits, they made the characters more likable despite not fully reflecting them. Despite periodic strange movements and traditional 3D effects that aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, the scenes are clear and understandable. The first episode’s shorter length gradually gives way to the more conventional 20-minute format with each succeeding episode.In my opinion, the voice acting is of average quality and in line with what I would expect from a regular anime. The background music emphasizes the action, sometimes with repeated tracks, which is a common practice in the industry. After completing Soul Land, even though I am open about my dislike for 3D animation and Chinese anime, I have found myself looking forward to more, regardless of whether it adheres to the same animation or language.

Even though some viewers may be turned off by its aesthetics and auditory aspects, I believe an anime can be truly enjoyable if you can get past these preconceived preconceptions. The great action–adventure-fantasy plot of Soul Land, which contains a hint of romance, perfectly captures my concept of what makes a good anime.
